Signs are fun to make- particularly so when we get to make them for valuable community agencies! At Sequoia Signs & Graphics, we believe in the promotion of local businesses and take great pride in being able to help organizations like the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.
The Lafayette Chamber is run by a team of great, enthusiastic individuals. If you get the chance, stop in to meet them or, better yet, attend one of their many great events! When the Chamber called us to ask for help replacing their thirty year old redwood sign, we jumped at the chance.
Redwood signs are a beautiful way to advertise. These signs start out as thick chunks of wood and are carved to size through a sandblasting technique. The result is a beautiful dimensional sign.
In the old days, redwood signs were always stained and we can still do that today. Unfortunately, most people do not realize that, to be effective, stain has to be reapplied every year. Our preference these days is to paint the wood but we can do so to look like stain. Paint has come a long way and the formulations we now have can maintain a better seal than in the past.
Take a look at the image accompanying this note- The Chamber used their logo color for the engraved writing and painted the main part of the sign to look like that dark brown redwood you see at our National Parks. The result is really fabulous.
