Dimensional letters come in all shapes and sizes. Often when we think of dimensional letters, we think of lobby signs where letters usually fall between 3”-10” in height. We also see them on exterior walls which are usually a bit larger, from 8”-24”. Sometimes, however, we get the opportunity to create a dimensional letter sign that outsizes all the rest. As you can see in the attached photo, Rodie’s Feed & Pet Supply was just one of these opportunities. For more on this type of sign- visit our website: Dimensional Letters
Rodie’s has been in business in Clayton for a long time. They are a well know supplier of high quality pet supplies and have a great reputation in the community. Surprisingly, the one thing their store lacked was a visible sign. This summer they approached us about rectifying the situation. They had a good idea of the signage they wanted but we still went through a couple revisions to get the size and material perfect.
If you drive around clayton, you will see a theme in the signage- the Barnum font is quite common and fits in nicely with the rural nature of the community. Rodie’s sign is consistent with this.
After discussing the sign basics, we reviewed several options on size and scale. In the end, they opted for letters that are three feet tall and fit nicely onto their frontage wall. They are made of formed plastic which will handle the Clayton Weather well.
Measurements are very important in signage, particularly with something of this scale. We almost always insist on doing an in-person site survey before we start the process. We will take a good number of measurements and photos. Then, when we are back at our facility, our designers will layout the proposed signs in our sign software using these measurements to define the field. In this way, we are able to show our clients exactly what they will be getting. In instances like this project, we will also use a laser device which takes a picture of the building along with information that the app captures about size and distance. From there, we are able to use the app to take measurements that would otherwise be difficult to reach. They are generally accurate to ½ inch so are quite reliable. Of course, we are never shy about re-measuring, just to be certain.
We were very excited to take on the Rodie’s project and equally happy with the results.
