Modern trade show and event banners come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some main categories to discuss to help buyers narrow down their options.
Common Banner Materials
Vinyl
Vinyl signs and banners have long been the first choice for businesses looking to promote and advertise and it’s easy to see why. Vinyl lends itself to bright colors, is waterproof, can be cut to any shape, and is phenomenally affordable. Along with being extremely durable, vinyl is very easy to print and can be produced nearly on-demand. Use Heavy-Duty vinyl for outdoor environments, matte-vinyl for indoor signs, and glossy vinyl for short-term outdoor promotions.
Fabric
Fabric banner displays are most commonly made from polyester, nylon, satin, or other synthetic fibers. Thanks to modern technology they can be printed and stretched quickly and efficiently and offer an ideal material for indoor and outdoor retail signage. In particular, fabric lends itself to a more comfortable, permanent-feeling banner thanks to its unique texture and warmth.
Common Banner Shapes
Feather and Teardrop Banners
Feather and teardrop banners are low cost and easy to pack up and transport. Looking like a feather hanging off a pole, they are extremely simple in design, easy to set up, and can be equipped with a variety of different fabrics or designs for different circumstances.
Flagpole Banners
While similar to the banners mentioned above, flagpole banners instead use a straight metal pole and a perpendicular top pole. The banner itself is in a rectangle and the entire design can be sized up or down as you have need. Interestingly, scientists suggest that rectangular banners be married with curved graphics, as the human brain responds better to arches than abrupt angles or clean lines.
Rectangular Hanging Banners or Banner Stands
When banners are mounted above an exhibit, hanging for the ceiling, or on a different mount that holds them perpendicular to the ground, they are typically designed to be square. The use of height in these circumstances draws the eye up or down, depending, and pulls visitors into your store or trade show booth.
Common Banner Sign Sizes
Signs can typically be produced for whatever size or purpose you need. However, if you need a standard size rectangular banner some common sizes include:
- 2’x3’
- 3’x2’
- 2’x4’
- 3’x5’
- 3’x6’
- 3’x8’
- 4’x8’
- 10’
- 15’
- 16.4’
- 19.7
You should also keep in mind that the thicker your banner material, the more sturdy, durable, and longer-lasting it will be.
